The Currency Converter provides live foreign-exchange rates for more than 150 world currencies, with hourly-updated data sourced from open.er-api.com. Whether you are pricing an export order, planning a foreign remittance, or reconciling an inward wire, this tool gives you an instant, transparent conversion between any two currencies.
Rates change every second on the interbank market and every day on the CBIC and RBI reference schedules. This calculator is designed for indicative business planning — the numbers you see match the live retail-adjacent rate and can be used as a working reference across quotations, budgets and management reports.
How the tool works
The converter queries a public exchange-rate feed that aggregates data from a wide network of banks and central-bank reference publications. The rates are refreshed hourly so the number you see is never more than 60 minutes out of date.
- Enter the amount to convert
- Pick a source currency (From) and a target currency (To)
- The tool returns the converted amount and the underlying reference rate
- Use the Swap button to instantly reverse the direction of conversion
Popular use cases

Understanding the different exchange rates
Reference / mid-market rate
The reference rate is the midpoint of the buy and sell rates on the interbank market. It is what news sites and business dashboards typically quote and what this tool displays.
Bank card and wire-transfer rate
When you actually convert money — whether on a card or through a wire — the bank applies a spread on top of the reference rate. In India this can range from 0.5% for premium wires to 2.5%+ for retail card swipes, plus GST on the conversion fee.
RBI reference rate
The Reserve Bank of India publishes an INR reference rate against USD, EUR, GBP and JPY every working day. It is used as the accounting rate for a range of official purposes.
CBIC customs exchange rate
The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs notifies a monthly exchange rate for a defined set of currencies. This is the rate used for computing the assessable value of imports and exports for duty purposes and is the correct rate to use with our Import Duty Calculator.
Choosing the right rate for the right job
- Costing and quotations to overseas buyers — mid-market rate with a safety margin
- Import duty computation — CBIC notified rate for the month
- Statutory books of account — the rate on the date of the transaction or as per the entity’s accounting policy
- Personal remittance and travel — the actual rate offered by the bank, card or forex provider
- Filing GST returns for exports — the reference rate on the date of the invoice
